Regular hygienist visits keep your smile beautiful and reduce the risk of oral health issues.
Hygiene & Airflow
Your smile is at the frontline of your everyday life, and it can become affected by diet, lifestyle, and oral health habits. Regular teeth cleaning and dental hygiene are essential tools to look after your mouth health and bring back the beauty of your smile.
At the Dental Health Centre, you can count on our hygienist services, from scaling & polishing to our advanced AIR-FLOW® technology.
Today, over 2.3 billion people worldwide suffer from tooth decay and just under half of the adult population experiences periodontal disease. Caries and gum diseases are easily preventable and allow you to reduce the risk of more severe oral health issues in the future. Alongside regular dental checkups, hygienist appointments are essential to keep your gums healthy, brighten your teeth, and prevent decay and diseases.
Hygienists provide professional dental hygiene services, from a dental examination to teeth cleaning. During the process called scaling and polishing, your hygienist will remove any tartar or plaque build-up, as well as superficial stains.
After the teeth cleaning process, your hygienist will advise you to reduce and prevent teeth and oral health issues, including tooth decay. Recommendations might include diet, lifestyle, and oral health routine.
Your dentist will recommend how frequent your appointments with your hygienist should be. However, generally, you should book an appointment every six months. Your dentist might also recommend teeth cleaning, scaling, and polishing before any dental treatments.
AIR-FLOW® is an innovative, non-abrasive tooth cleaning and brightening technology that allows your hygienist to remove heavy plaque build-up, discolouration, and stains. It provides a deeper clean by removing the biofilm produced by bacteria when colonising the plaque on the teeth. AIR-FLOW® teeth cleaning uses compressed air, water, and fine powder particles to treat areas of the mouth that are hard to reach without damaging the teeth’s surfaces.
By removing the damaging biofilm on the teeth, AIR-FLOW® therapy reduces the incidence of tooth decay and gum health issues such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and peri-implantitis. This therapy is efficient, pain-free, and gentle on delicate areas of the mouth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hygienists are trained to carry out specific work and help prevent you from needing further work on your mouth. Advice will be provided on how to best brush and floss your teeth to help you get more out your regular brushing sessions.
You’ll have a discussion with your hygienist about any concerns you might have and your gums will have a thorough examination. We will be looking for signs of gum disease and your teeth will be checked for signs of decay. If either is present, you will receive the necessary treatment. Your teeth will also be scaled and polished. If you’d like to have stains removed from your teeth, we can use our new revolutionary Airflow system. Airflow stain removal treatment can be incorporated into your hygienist appointment, or booked separately.
Up to 90% of the population may have gingivitis (bleeding gums) currently and there’s a good chance 50% of the population will suffer from gum disease at some point. If your gums are red, swollen or bleeding you could have gum disease. The hygienist will assess your mouth and deliver gum therapy if it’s required. It’s especially important gum disease is treated upon discovery, given the links that various studies have found between gum disease and more serious illnesses, such as heart disease and diabetes. Treating gum disease early also reduces the risk of tooth loss.
